Large Format Certification: VeyoStudio Meets Theatrical Projection Standards
VeyoStudio becomes the first generative AI video engine to meet the strict resolution and colour depth standards required for theatrical release.
VeyoStudio Meets Theatrical Projection Standards
VeyoStudio has received formal large-format certification — the first generative AI video engine to meet the technical requirements for theatrical projection across the major cinema exhibition standards.
This matters for two groups: creators submitting films to festivals that require DCP delivery, and brands producing content for cinema advertising.
What Theatrical Certification Means
Cinema projection operates under specifications defined by the Digital Cinema Initiative (DCI) — a consortium of the major Hollywood studios that sets the technical standards for digital theatrical release.
Meeting DCI standards requires:
| Specification | DCI Requirement | VeyoStudio Output |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution (2K) | 2048 × 1080 | Native 2048 × 1080 ✓ |
| Resolution (4K DCI) | 4096 × 2160 | Native 4096 × 2160 ✓ |
| Frame rate | 24, 25, 30, 48, 60 fps | All supported ✓ |
| Colour space | XYZ (DCI-P3 display) | Full DCI-P3 ✓ |
| Bit depth | 12-bit minimum | 12-bit native ✓ |
| Compression | JPEG 2000 (MXF wrapper) | VeyoExport DCP ✓ |
| Audio | 24-bit / 48kHz or 96kHz | Both supported ✓ |
| Luminance | 14 foot-lamberts peak | Calibrated ✓ |
Every specification is met natively. No post-processing or format conversion is required for theatrical delivery.
What This Unlocks for Creators
Festival submissions requiring DCP: Most major international film festivals require DCP delivery for theatrical screening. Previously, VeyoLabs creators needed to use a third-party DCP conversion service (cost: $200–$800 per title). VeyoExport now generates a valid DCP file directly from your project.
Cinema advertising: Brand advertising in cinema has stricter technical requirements than online video. VeyoStudio's certified output is now accepted by the major cinema advertising networks without third-party technical review.
Theatrical distribution: AI-generated feature films and shorts can now be submitted for theatrical distribution through standard industry channels without a format exception process.
The Certification Process
VeyoStudio's outputs were tested across three phases:
- Laboratory analysis — pixel-level evaluation of resolution, colour accuracy, and compression artefacts against DCI reference material
- Projection booth testing — physical projection of VeyoStudio outputs on cinema-grade projectors in a calibrated screening room
- Blind evaluation — independent assessment by theatre operators without advance knowledge of which content was AI-generated
The laboratory analysis identified two minor colour rendering adjustments required in our XYZ conversion pipeline. Both were corrected. The projection booth and blind evaluation passed without modifications.
Accessing Theatrical Export
Theatrical DCP export is available to all Pro subscribers through VeyoExport. Select your project, choose DCP as the export format, and specify your audio configuration. Export time for a 10-minute short is approximately 8–15 minutes.
The exported DCP is validated by VeyoExport's built-in DCI compliance checker before delivery. If any parameter falls outside specification, VeyoExport flags it with a specific correction instruction.
This is production infrastructure, not a feature — it should work every time without you having to think about it.
